Nothing Happens Without Putting in Some Effort

Image
There are no free rides to fitness and nothing happens without putting in some effort. Anything worthwhile takes work, agreed? It Comes Down to Choices The choice is yours to make to get healthy. We can either choose to be healthy and happy or  miserable and unhealthy . Your body will represent your choices. It's really that simple. The choice does seem simple but many of us still consider getting fit too hard and unenjoyable. Fitness is somehow viewed as a burden that removes all the fun in life. I find this perplexing. Why is Unhealthy the Acceptable Norm? We live in a society where being overweight and unhealthy is an acceptable norm. This is not a body shaming issue, but a health issue. The obesity epidemic has now risen to almost 40% of the American population. It is causing chronic illness impairing the quality of our life. Without a change in the way we live and eat, this problem is not going away. How is feeling sick, tired, and in chronic pain a fun daily existence? Does t...

Setting Boundaries is an Important Part of Being Healthy

Image
It took years for me to learn how to set boundaries and even understand what the heck that meant. Think of a boundary as a shield of protection around you providing health and happiness . Setting boundaries is an important part of self-love and not allowing others to treat you in an unhealthy way. Do you struggle with setting boundaries? The Struggle is Real When boundary setting is not demonstrated for us as children, it's usually a struggle to grasp as an adult. The sacrifice of self to the point of mistreatment by others can be the result if boundary setting is not put into place. Boundaries make a clear statement of what is not acceptable or allowed in your life. When those lines are crossed, it's a painful process for the one that has been wronged. Sometimes clear communication of the broken boundary can resolve the conflict. Other instances will require radical choices of removing ourselves from the situation altogether. The most uncomfortable part of a broken boundary is...

Getting Fit Happens When You Make Health a Priority

Image
Many of us fail to make health and fitness a priority and wonder why results aren't happening. Do you fall into this category? If you want to make a change in your body and life, it will take evaluating the way you're living now. Where do you see yourself: Sedentary, not living a healthy lifestyle. Sorta living a healthy lifestyle, but not really committed. Living a healthy lifestyle. Once you have determined your category, you will be able to move forward with positive changes. The goal for all of you would be living a healthy lifestyle. Understanding how to go from an unhealthy to a healthy lifestyle is an important step in the process . It will be one of the most significant decisions you will make for your life and health. Fixing the Problem The problem remains that fitness is not made a priority. Excuses or reasons still get in the way of making healthy choices. Instead of using reasons to validate living unhealthy, you will need to start evaluating your priorities to make...

Fitness is Not About Having All the Answers

Image
Deciding to get healthy is one of the best decisions you can make. It also doesn't require you to know everything about the process. The most important thing is that you have made the choice to improve your life. Great! Fitness is a Process Fitness is a process and an ongoing journey of learning. What works best for you is discovered mostly through trial and error. There will be frustrations and victories as you fine-tune your daily choices. It's not about having all the answers because you never will. This applies to all of us at every stage of fitness. Our bodies change and fitness programs need revising along the way. Your food intake will require evaluation and re-evaluation as you lose weight and gain muscle. Getting enough rest is another important part of maintaining a healthy body. Methods of exercise that work for you may not feel the best for someone else. Fitness applications will be different for each of us making health improvement an individual process of learnin...

Gimmicks Don't Represent or Create Lasting Fitness

Image
Fitness gimmicks are a billion dollar industry causing frustration for consumers not seeing the results of their promises. The truth is nothing exists in a bottle or package to create lasting fitness. I am a strong advocate to debunk food and fitness myths and their false guarantees to deliver a perfect body in 10 days or less. I can really get on a soapbox about this subject and sometimes do. Today seems fitting to fling a little soap around and clean up the fitness myth mess created by dishonest marketing in the fitness world. Quick Fix Quackery Most of America wants to get fit fast and companies are not dumb in knowing how to market that dream at top dollar. Store shelves and online sites are crammed with millions of miracle fitness makers. As consumers, we are responding to those scams and making supplement companies very rich indeed. You are the target group these billion dollar companies have placed their focus and promising fitness in a bottle of wonder . Next time you open you...

Make Fitness a Lifestyle not a Temporary Condition

Image
Many of us are getting fit but not staying fit. Why? It's nice to look better for an event or photos, but we're missing out on what fitness is all about. Fitness is not a temporary condition but a healthy lifestyle. Life is the event to get fit for but we're failing to make health and fitness a priority. It seems people get excited about getting in shape around the New Year and to look good in a swimsuit. What about the majority of the year? Time For a Permanent Change Getting fit isn't a sorta kinda thing, but a decision to live healthy for life. It doesn't require a special holiday or event. Health and self-improvement can happen now and should. It's a choice to take the best care of you for the long haul. You have one body, one life, and one chance to get it right. I don't think any of us want to live with regrets. To not realize how good we're supposed to feel as healthy people would be a shame. It's time we start making fitness a lifelong goal. ...

Is Your Spouse Supporting or Sabotaging Your Fitness Efforts?

Image
You've made the decision to get healthy and fit. Great! If you're sharing life with a spouse, this may not be what they have in mind. For some reason, we think how we feel auto-transfers into their brain. Wrong. This is how unrealistic expectations, frustration, and even anger can happen. Welcome to month 3 of New Year, New You in 365 Days ! If both of you are making the decision to get fit together, the journey is supportive and enjoyable. When only one partner makes the choice to improve their health, it can be problematic but not impossible. I have worked with many a client where the opted out spouse not only doesn't support but does everything to sabotage fitness efforts. This environment can get ugly and it takes strength, calm, and lots of self-love to handle this scenario. It will require getting healthy while still loving your spouse just as they are. What?! But I Want Support You have made an important life decision to get healthy and want to feel supported by your...
