Being Fit is a Lifestyle Not an Obsession

Image
Getting healthy and staying that way is awesome. When you do it right, it's considered a lifestyle. Going overboard is when anything can become an obsession. I believe in eating right 80% of the time and exercising at least 4 times weekly. This would be an example of a healthy lifestyle. If you're spending endless hours in the gym and obsessing about food to the point your life is negatively affected then that would not be healthy. See the difference? Healthy Lifestyles are Balanced Having a healthy balance is what makes health and life great. Moving beyond that and having an obsessive attitude can bring about an unhealthy life regardless of how good it may appear. Too much of a good thing is really not a good thing. Healthy lifestyles are not obsessive but a balance of eating right, exercise, and fun. Ask yourself: Is your healthy lifestyle enjoyable? OR Does your healthy lifestyle feel like a burden because you worry about eating clean 100% of the time and feel guilty if yo...

When Fitness is a Struggle It's Important to Do it Anyway

Image
Do you struggle with fitness sometimes? I surely have days like that but it's important to do it anyway. There are days it doesn't come easy. This is also true for me and any fitness professional. I don't always feel like working out or eating right. My motivation can tank. The struggle is real. Agreed?   In fact, this past week has been nothing but a struggle. Without going into a bunch of gory details, not feeling my best and it's affecting my training. Blah!  Find Your Motivation and Stay Positive It's days and weeks like this that my clients motivate me without even realizing it. I also have an amazing hubby who gives pretty good pep talks. Sometimes things can just feel a bit overwhelming.  The struggle is real for all of us. The most important thing is not to allow it to defeat you. Did you do your best? Fabulous! Then, you weren't defeated but accomplished. Whenever struggle hits hard, focus on everything positive about your efforts. Do Your Best ...

Take The Busy Out of Your Life For Better Health and Fitness

Image
It's not about having time but making time for health and fitness. Right? We all have busy lives. The problem is the need for better time management and taking some of the busy out of your life. Too often the day gets away from us and the justification not to exercise seems acceptable. The longer the day goes on, it's easier to say forget it. This has become the norm and habitual routine for many people. Other things become a priority and we tend to use being busy as an excuse to skip a workout or eat right. That high energy morning and missed window to exercise turns into dreading to do it later. So, it doesn't get done. Sound familiar? Make Fitness Happen I just so happen to prefer morning workouts and understand the feeling of pushing through later. It sucks but doesn't mean to skip the workout. Discipline means doing what you need to do even when you don't feel like doing it. The point is not to let yourself down and make fitness happen. You can only blame yours...

Slow Things Down for Better Fitness Results

Image
Rushing to reach any goal in life can create stress and frustration. Unrealistic expectations often get in the way. You really miss all the good and important stuff during the journey focusing too hard on the end game. Slower is Better I have learned to take things a little slower, practice patience, listen intently and enjoy the moment. I have implemented this philosophy into my fitness, nutrition , work, and play.  I enjoy teaching that nothing good happens fast and the process of getting fit is the goal. Slow and Controlled Workouts Take workouts for example. Slowing down to execute good form on all exercise is essential. The focus should remain on the muscle being worked, understanding the movement and doing it right. This doesn't mean fast and risking injury. Lifting weights is a slow and controlled process. When done correctly, you can achieve amazing results .  Working through a lifting routine slowly provides your muscles with a greater benefit. I personally create ...

Maintaining Your Fitness is The Goal

Image
Reaching your  fitness goals is a great accomplishment. I applaud your effort and hard work to make that happen. The question is are you maintaining those goals? Is good health a continued priority and lifestyle? Fitness is a Lifestyle Fitness is not meant to be a temporary fix but a lifestyle of health and wellness. Sure, you may rock that swimsuit for the season but is that all fitness means? True fitness success is when you live it daily. Eating healthy foods consistently and exercise is part of your normal routine. In fact, getting off track for too long doesn't feel right when living a healthy lifestyle. Fitness becomes a priority and excuses no longer get in the way. You refuse to return to being overweight, sick and nearly dead. You get the point. Keep Healthy Habits For Life I've seen too many people succeed at reaching goal weights , reduced body fat, and improved health and throw it all away. Somehow, thinking you can get away with returning to a few unhealthy habi...

Food is Not the Enemy

Image
It would be easy to blame food for being overweight and unhealthy. The truth is food is not the enemy. In fact, our very survival is based on food and water for optimal body functioning. Taking Responsibility Let's be honest. Getting healthy is about taking responsibility and making the right daily choices to improve your fitness . This includes the food you eat on a regular basis. We only have ourselves to blame when the grocery cart is filled with frozen pizzas, pastries, ice cream, and sodas. How your body looks and feels is your responsibility.  Eating healthy food  controls a large percentage of a fit lifestyle. Portion Control Then there are the portion sizes. We're eating way too much at one sitting. Whether the food is healthy or unhealthy, eating too many calories and not burning that energy creates an excess energy bank stored as fat. You may also try to convince yourself eating processed foods in the appropriate caloric portions is healthy. Outwardly you may...
